On Friday, Russian forces launched an armored ground assault near Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city in the northeast. Although they made small advances, this attack has opened a new front in the ongoing war that has been raging in the eastern and southern regions.”

It’s crucial to support Ukraine during this critical time, and the U.S. aid package will help bolster Ukraine’s defenses against further aggression.

  • White House national security spokesperson John Kirby expressed concern that Russia may be preparing for a larger assault on Kharkiv, Ukraine. Signs indicate that Russia is positioning itself to use long-range fire within range of the city.
  • The United States is responding by preparing a $400 million military aid package for Ukraine. This aid includes artillery, NASAMS air defense munitions, anti-tank munitions, armored vehicles, and small arms.
  • The aid will be provided through the Presidential Drawdown Authority (PDA), allowing the president to transfer resources from U.S. stocks without specific congressional approval during emergencies. As part of a $95 billion aid bill, Congress authorized $60.8 billion in various forms of assistance to Ukraine, including $8 billion in PDA items.
