Bangkok, May 19, 2025 – The Nepal Women’s cricket team celebrated a historic milestone, securing a five-wicket victory over the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the Super Three stage of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier in Bangkok, Thailand. This win has propelled Nepal into the Global Qualifier for the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, marking their first-ever qualification at this level.
Chasing a target of 115 set by UAE, Nepal reached 115/5 in 19.3 overs, led by a composed 30 from captain Indu Barma and a brisk 21 from Samjhana Khadka. UAE’s Esha Oza top-scored with 39, but Nepal’s bowler Manisha Upadhayay turned the game with an impressive 4-20, restricting UAE to 114/7. The victory, celebrated widely by fans on social media, ensures Nepal joins Thailand in the Global Qualifier, with one Super Three match remaining against Thailand on May 20.
The Asia Qualifier, hosted at Terdthai Cricket Ground and the Asian Institute of Technology Ground, saw nine teams compete for two Global Qualifier spots. Thailand, UAE, and Nepal emerged as group winners, with Thailand and Nepal now advancing. The Global Qualifier will pit them against teams from other regions for a chance to compete in the 2026 T20 World Cup in England.
Meanwhile, in the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 (2023-27), Canada and Oman are set to face off today at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Lauderhill, Florida. This 69th match of the league is part of a tri-series that also involves the United States. The League 2 competition is crucial for teams aiming to qualify for the 2027 Cricket World Cup, with Oman and Canada both looking to build on recent performances. Oman, with a history of climbing the World Cricket League ranks and securing ODI status in 2019, remains a strong contender, while Canada aims to leverage their Americas region qualification for the 2024 T20 World Cup.
