Weather forecasters cautioned that a series of hazardous storms could move across portions of the Southern United States on Thursday morning, following severe weather the previous day that generated destructive tornadoes and large hail, resulting in two fatalities in Tennessee and one fatality in North Carolina.
The ongoing storms are part of a widespread occurrence of heavy rainfall and tornadoes that have affected various regions across the United States this week, spanning from the Plains to the Midwest and currently impacting the southeastern states. Since Monday, at least four individuals have lost their lives due to severe weather conditions.
During the storms on Wednesday, the National Weather Service persisted in issuing tornado warnings extending past midnight for regions including North Carolina, Alabama, Georgia, Missouri, and Kentucky. Additionally, parts of Arkansas and Mississippi were placed under a tornado watch until the early morning hours.
In northeastern Tennessee, a storm swept through, causing strong winds that toppled power lines and trees. Bob Brooks, the sheriff of Claiborne County located about an hour north of Knoxville, reported that a 22-year-old man lost his life when he was struck by a tree while in a car.
