A highly anticipated biographical film titled “The Apprentice” premiered at the Cannes Film Festival on Monday, coinciding with former US President Donald Trump’s preparation for another White House bid. However, the controversial movie has sparked legal threats from Trump’s representatives due to its portrayal of certain events as “sensationalized lies.”
“The Apprentice” follows Donald Trump’s journey as a budding real estate mogul in New York during the 1970s and 1980s. However, the film begins with a disclaimer stating that several events depicted are fictionalized.
Sebastian Stan, known for his role in Marvel films, portrays a young Donald Trump in “The Apprentice,” while Jeremy Strong, recognized from “Succession,” embodies Trump’s ruthless mentor and lawyer, Roy Cohn.
One particularly startling moment in the film depicts Donald Trump allegedly raping his first wife, Ivana, a claim she made during their divorce proceedings, though she later retracted it. Ivana passed away in 2022.
