Another season of English football concluded with Manchester City securing their fourth consecutive Premier League title on Sunday. This achievement also signifies their sixth league championship in the past seven seasons. Pep Guardiola, in his eighth year at the club, has now amassed 17 trophies as manager of Manchester City. The opportunity to secure his 18th title for the club looms as his team prepares to face Manchester United in the FA Cup final.

Since Guardiola guided Manchester City to the league title in 2018, only Liverpool managed to interrupt their dominance with their triumph in 2020. City secured consecutive titles under Guardiola in 2018 and 2019, accumulating 100 and 98 points, respectively. Subsequently, Liverpool halted their streak before City reclaimed the title once more.

Last season, Manchester City achieved a remarkable treble by winning the Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup titles. Under Guardiola’s guidance, City also secured three League Cup trophies and reached the final of the UEFA Champions League in 2021.

Despite having a contract with Manchester City until the end of the next season, Guardiola’s recent remarks have sparked speculation about his potential departure. In a conversation with the media, he stated, “The reality is that I’m more inclined to leave than to stay. With eight years already behind me, soon to be nine, my current inclination is to remain for the upcoming season. Discussions with the club have commenced, and we’ll have further conversations next season. It’s essential for me to assess whether the players are aligned with our vision and objectives. I’ll stay for now, and we’ll engage in discussions when the time is right.”
